Exclusive Margaret River Producer Wows at Wineaway

Exclusive Margaret River Producer Wows at Wineaway

Scott & Vic fell in love with Margaret River producer Windows Estate a couple of years ago, and have been raving about them ever since.

Run by the young and incredibly hard working Davies family, the values held paramount to this boutique operation are sustainability, absolute devotion to the vines, and a gentle approach in their winemaking. You’d be hard pressed to find a more dedicated and knowledgeable pair of vino lovers in all of Margaret River.

Awarded ‘Best Small Cellar Door’ in Margaret River by Gourmet Traveller Wine Magazine three years in a row (2015, 2016, 2017), Scott is forever recommending a visit for any of our clients heading to the region. Judging by the feedback, he hasn’t led them astray!

These wines are wonderful expressions of the fruit and, with extremely limited distribution (other than at cellardoor, Wineaway are the only other retailer nationally for these wines), we are thrilled to be able to offer them exclusively to you our clients.

To order any of the below wines, simply email or call us on 07 3852 1891

2014 Windows Estate Basket Pressed Cabernet Sauvignon Margaret River – $42

97 point, James Halliday

Margaret River to its back teeth with that particular profound mouthfilling expression of varietal blackcurrant fruit that doesn’t need to belabour the point.

It is, quite simply, of world class – so I won’t belabour the point either.

2015 Windows Estate Basket Pressed Syrah Margaret River – $32

New Release!

Sour cherry and tangy dark berries dominate this wine’s layered palate with nuances of white pepper and spice.

A fine acid backbone and savoury characters complete this attractive cool climate Syrah.

2016 Windows Estate Chardonnay Margaret River – $42

New Release!

Not ‘officially’ due for release until November, but the 2015 earned 95points from both Hooke and Halliday.

This traditional style Chardonnay combines power with elegance in typical Margaret River fashion.

(On a little side note.. We hosted a square-off event last year between the Leeuwin Estate and Windows Estate Cabernets, and it was the Windows which was far more popular with our punters (and at half the price)!!)

West End’s new Roman Pizza Bar, Lupa!

West End’s new Roman Pizza Bar, Lupa!

Sick of the same old vino offerings when you dine out? Then the intriguing wine list at West End’s new Roman Pizza Bar, Lupa, will have you buzzing with excitement.

Owners Andrea Contin and Valentina Vigni have poured their love of quality Italian produce into Lupa, rigorously taste testing wines for months in the lead up to opening. I’ve been told that more than thirty Vin Santos were tried in order to source just the right one for their list!

You won’t find any Australian wines here, none of the usual suspects but, we promise, it’s going to be okay.

Instead, by the glass you can try a delicious and savoury dry Cannonau from Sardinia, or a 100% Ciliegiolo (usually seen only as a minor component in the chianti blend). The whites are just as interesting, with a rarely seen Lugana from Veneto also available. The small region of Lugana bordering Lake Garda is at risk of losing 25% of its vineyards to a proposed rail line, so try this wine while you still can.

And if the wine list looks a little too overwhelming, skip googling the names under the table, just ask Andrea for tasting notes and recommendations. He has a wealth of knowledge to share.

On a final note, do yourself a favour and forget everything you think you know about Lambrusco, I know it will be difficult, then give the Radice Lambrusco di Sorbara a try. It’s a sparkling cloudy rose in appearance, with excellent balance, sublime texture, and a bit of funk.

Lupa is open Tuesday to Sunday, from midday till late, at 321 Montague Road West End.

At Wineaway we love to explore new and unusual wines, and have been hosting a series of wine events focusing on some of the more obscure Italian wines available to us. Our final instalment in the series (the Mezziogornio) will be coming in late October. Sign up to our mailing list for further details. We’ll be sure to feature some Cannonau in the lineup!
