Tasting Notes

I tasted this wine before it officially went to market, and although it definitely needs more time in bottle, I think we are in for something very special. With high-elevation fruit from ancient, twisted 100-year-old vines, this expression is beautifully ethereal and almost weightless in character. The Girolamo Russo 2021 Etna Rosso Feudo di Mezzo offers blue flower, ashy smoke, licorice and grilled herb. The tannins are silky and caressing. Giuseppe Russo makes some of the best wines on Etna. Full stop. - 96+pts, Monica Larner for The Wine Advocate

The 2021 Etna Rosso Feudo di Mezzo takes its time in the glass to reveal spicy tones with a dusty resonance of roses, violets, worn leather and sage. This is silky-smooth with a core of tart wild berry fruits to contrast. Salty minerals saturate as a coating of fine tannins forms toward the close. It finishes staining and long while a twang of sour citrus fades. I love the mix of energy and concentration here. - Eric Guido
