Tasting Notes

A 50-year-old Châteauneuf du Pape from a single domaine! This cuvée is the fruit of Xavier Vignon's in depth knowledge of Châteauneuf-du-Pape and the interesting encounters he has shared over the 25 years with other winemakers from the appellation. This vintage was an opportunity that was not to be missed. It is impossible these days to achieve such excellent acidity level (equivalent to those of a white wine, of higher even!) which give an extraordinary potential for bottle age. A taste of the world as it used to be! Sight Light hue with rusty glimmers. Aromas of flint and gunflint, combine with leather for a powerful and mineral nose. The palate is incredibly fresh and reveals notes of smoke and walnut. Remarkable freshness revealing smoky and nutty notes. The acidity level is high. The balance and finesse on the finish are nothing short of outstanding and attest to the remarkable complexity of this wine. - Winery Notes. New Bottling.

A fascinating wine with an intriguing story behind it.  This 1972 Chateauneuf du pape was discovered recently, effectively 'lost' ageing in an oxgen free concrete tank, so the wine is old, it has a remarkabley youthful profile.  Distinclty CNDP, it exhibits savoury red fruits, spicy and peppery leather notes, a long and complex finish.  An unbelievable wine experience that will most likely not be repeated ever again.
