Tasting Notes

A blend of 80/20% 1995-planted cabernet and 1990-planted malbec. Matured in French barriques (15% new). A medium deep, bright crimson. Fragrant with aromas of damson plums, blackcurrants, cedar and violets. Medium bodied, this elegantly wrought and persistent wine finishes with very fine-grained and suave tannins suggesting this will age gracefully over the next six to eight years. – 96pts, Philip Rich for Halliday Wine Companion

The 2022 Agincourt Cabernet Malbec leads with cassis and mulberry, green peppercorns and a hint of sumac spice, with strawberry, black cherry and raspberry. Epic. On the palate, the wine is a little green and nettle like, with a resinous sort of herbs and cassis bramble. It is lovely, and I believe it will age beautifully, those green inflections holding it in good stead in the years to come. Leafy and detailed. Very good, although it is on the green/leafy spectrum for Cabernet. Done very well. 13.5% alcohol, sealed under screw cap. – 94pts, Erin Larkin for The Wine Advocate

Dark berries, cassis, violets, a trace of ironstone. Palate is tight, firm, elegant, beautifully balanced and ready for ageing. Excellent wine. – 94pts, Huon Hooke

Aromas of blackcurrants, cedar, purple fruit and rose petals. The palate is full-bodied with firmly integrated tannins and bright acidity, giving notes of Damson plums, mulberries, dried herbs and violets. Quite structured and drying, Drink or hold. Screw cap. – 94pts, James Suckling
